Lumituulia Liu (Chinese name is Xiao Xue), a MBA student studies in Xian Jiaotong University. She comes from Finland, a winter wonderland country.
Five years ago, she came to Shaanxi to study for a bachelor's degree in Chinese, and then to study for a master's degree. Shaanxi has become her second hometown.
Finland and Shaanxi Experience
Shaanxi is actually my second hometown, because my father is from Shaanxi and my mother is Finnish. When I was a child, I used to come here, but I have little memory of this place, so I really want to know the other side of my family, so the decision to come to Shaanxi is very easy for me.
As for why I came to Shaanxi to study, in fact, it is also very unexpected. When I graduated from high school at the age of 18, I didn't know what I wanted to learn in the future. At that time, my mother suggested that I should learn a foreign language. I thought it was a good idea, so I applied to come to Shaanxi to study Chinese. Since then, I have started my studies in Shaanxi.
I think Shaanxi is the perfect mix with history and modernity. It is the perfect place to experience China. The people here are nice and welcoming. Shaanxi looks like Finland on the map, it makes me feel at home.
Health QR Code and Online Course
Earlier this year, affected by the epidemic, I felt very lonely, at a loss, and even had the urge to go home. But since March, everything has slowly returned to normal.
Our school has done very well with the prevention policies. Students can't enter campus randomly, only the ones they study in, we have to do a health check every day and record it online. We also have an own QR-code when entering campus area for the officials to check.
My school has had online classes since February, and they still continue online since most of my classmates are not in China at the moment. I also gradually adapted to the current way of life.
The Epidemic Quietly Changed Life
For me, the biggest change is that it quietly changed my life. Although I miss my classmates very much, I'm used to taking online classes and using health QR code.
In the past, I like to go to the mall, so I often visit Datang Mall and Xiaozhai, now these places are no different from before. People are no longer afraid that they or others will be infected, and life is as happy as it used to be. But I don't go out as often as I used to, seldomly go shopping, or maybe because I'm used to cooking on my own.
Now I just worry about my family who are back in Finland. I got flight tickets in July but I am not sure if it's a wise decision. I hope that this situation clears soon so I can go back home and spend time with my family during the holidays.
